The Wright Brothers are, as every school kid knows, two bicycle builders famous for making man's first powered airplane flight (photo) on December 17, 1903. In the process they made a windy hilltop and a tiny village on North Carolina's Outer Banks famous. They also gave North Carolina it's license plate slogan, "First In Flight".

All I have to add are these photos of the Wright Brothers Memorial Pylon at Kill Devil Hill and the airplane replica in the museum.
