These LandSat images from NASA/Goddard Space Flight Center United States Geological Survey, taken during the eastern North Carolina flood caused by Hurricane Floyd in September, 1999, show massive silt and waste runoff. Because that is not the focus of this web site, the images were cropped and compressed to speed downloading. By comparing these images with a good N.C. state road map, one can easily identify roads, towns, bridges, lakes, airports and many other details. Keep in mind, however, the flooded rivers are far out of their banks, distorting their shapes.

Note that in image B, the path that was cleared at Buxton to move the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse can clearly be seen. Boat wakes are visible in all of these images too.
